My Whys...

I'm collecting my whys...why do I write and why do I keep going?

The first why...because one glance at a person, an issue, a place doesn't tell you much. Too many of us are satisfied with only that one glance.

I write YA romantic comedies that are both joyful and thought-provoking, because I believe stories can prepare young people to shape a better future. I trust teens to rise to the challenges ahead, and I want to give them authentic characters, diverse perspectives, and real-world ideas woven into fun, engaging narratives.

My work grows from my background in education, child development, trauma, and resiliency. I know communities — not top-down systems — create real change, and I want my books to contribute to that by strengthening protective factors, sparking critical thinking, and showing the power of friendship, love, and courage.

Big Why Coming Atcha!

My first grandchild arrived a little over a year ago. I want to do what I can to change even a tiny corner of the world for him.

A sad why...My oldest sibling passed away about a year ago. We'd been estranged for over three years.

She wanted me to be on "her side" of an issue that involved another family member.

I'm not responsible for her decisions, but I've learned a lot about healthy families since then. I want share what I've learned.

I don't expect families to be perfect, but they can hang in there and choose to be the best for one another.
